Sex offender accused of lying about where he lived
David John Nolais, 61, of Sheffield, is charged with providing false or misleading information to sex-offender registry, failing to update his address
A Sheffield man who was placed on the sex-offender information registry for soliciting a teenage boy for sex in 2009 now stands accused of giving misleading details about where he was living.
David John Nolais, 61, of Route 105 in Sheffield, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Friday to answer to three charges, all alleging he breached the conditions of a court order issued under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA).
He’s accused of providing a police officer with false or misleading information about his primary residence on Jan. 7, 2022; failing to update the registry within seven days of a change in residence July 8; and again providing false or misleading information to police Nov. 18 about where he was living.
Nolais told Judge Mary Jane Richards he needed an adjournment to seek legal counsel, and she set his pleas over to April 21.
Nolais was sentenced to jail time in April 2015 for several different crimes, including solicitation of a teenage boy for sex March 21, 2009.
At that time, court heard he was working as a cab driver in the capital, and he picked up the 16-year-old victim as a fare.
Nolais asked the boy about his sexuality and asked for sexual favours, offering money and a free cab ride in return.
As a result of that conviction, the court imposed a SOIRA order requiring Nolais to register as a sex offender for 10 years following his release from jail, and that order remains in effect.

I think if you committed ANY act that puts you on any "registry", or places a "ban" on a convicted person... that should be imposed permanently!! I also do not think that if a "young offender" is charged and convicted of a violent crime, that they should be "protected" under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Running from the law.....for a reason! He needs a wake call, like, nailed to the wall!
