Sex-crime sentencing delayed
Joshua Gorman, 39, of Fredericton, needs to focus on testifying at second trial on sexual-offence allegations instead of worrying about impending incarceration due to first trial
A defence lawyer asked a court Monday to postpone his client’s sentencing hearing for sexual offences against a minor because the offender needs to focus on his upcoming trial on similar allegations.
A judge convicted Joshua Gorman, 39, of Dora Drive, in February of five offences involving an underage girl, finding him guilty of sexually assaulting the child, touching her for a sexual purpose and inviting her to touch him sexually at Scotch Lake between May 2020 and July 2022.
There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the girl’s identity.
Gorman was scheduled to be sentenced for those crimes Thursday, but his defence counsel, Fredericton lawyer T.J. Burke, appeared in provincial court Monday to request that the hearing be adjourned.
