Scheduling hiccup in northside stabbing case
Teen accused of 2nd-degree murder in June 2024 death of Mark “Barnzie” Albert Brooks II
Jury trial dates were supposed to be set down Monday in the case of a young man accused of killing a Sitansisk (St. Mary’s) First Nation elder last summer, but court heard the defence isn’t available.
The 18-year-old defendant appeared before Court of King’s Bench Justice Thomas Christie at the Burton Courthouse on Monday in person and in custody for motions day to schedule his jury trial on a count of second-degree murder.

He’s accused of the fatal stabbing of Mark “Barnzie” Albert Brooks II, 71, of Sitansisk (St. Mary’s) First Nation the night of June 21 in the parking lot of Tim Hortons on Union Street.
Because the accused was only 17 at the time of his alleged crime, his identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
