The lawyer representing a Fredericton man accused of torching a couch on College Hill just ahead of the academic year last summer told a court he hopes the case will resolve without trial.

Caysey William Walton, 21, of Kings College Road, was scheduled to enter pleas Monday to Aug. 31 counts of failing to prevent the spread of a fire to a couch and obstructing a Fredericton police officer engaged in the execution of his duty.

Walton wasn’t present in court Monday, but defence lawyer Tim Murphy appeared on his behalf.
