Renous inmate to seek legal aid

A federal inmate has had trouble arranging for private counsel on firearms charges from behind bars, court heard Thursday, so he needs time to apply for legal aid.
Codi Timothy Martin, 32, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday by telephone from the Atlantic Institution in Renous.
He faces Nov. 21 charges of pointing a firearm at a complainant, uttering a threat to cause death and/or bodily harm to that complainant, possessing a 9-mm handgun without a licence and violating a court-ordered firearms ban.
Additionally, he’s accused of possessing a Maverick Model 88 shotgun without a licence, possessing prohibited and restricted firearms - a sawed-off shotgun and 9-mm revolver - without a licence or registration certification, possessing a prohibited weapon (a Taser), breaching the weapons ban again, storing firearms carelessly and being unlawfully at large in violation of his prison sentence, all on Feb. 25 in Fredericton.
