RCMP operation in Doaktown is over
Mounties report one person is in custody following situation in village north of Fredericton
The “police operation” that prompted the RCMP to tell people to avoid an area of a small community north of Fredericton on Tuesday morning has concluded with an arrest, the Mounties now report.
Mounties issued an alert through social media at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, advisikng that officers “are currently on scene of a police operation in the Storeytown Road area of Doaktown.”
The advisory asked people to avoid the area to allow officers to conduct the operation.
Police didn’t share the nature of the situation in the village about an hour’s drive north of Fredericton, or if there is a risk to public safety.
About an hour later, at 10:21 a.m., the RCMP provided an update, noting the situation had been resolved.
“The police operation on Storeytown Road in Doaktown has safely concluded, and one individual is in custody,” it said.
“[The] RCMP would like to thank the public for their co-operation and patience.”
However, it remains unclear why the area had been locked down or what the nature of the response was. The social-media update didn’t indicate if the individual in custody would be appearing in court this week, at a later date or at all.
