RCMP retracts alert on break-in suspect
Mounties issued photo of man it described as being involved in a burglary and theft of firearms, only to follow up to report pictured individual was no longer person of interest
The RCMP released a photo Wednesday of a man it described as a suspect in a Killarney Lake break-in earlier this month, but it turned out he didn’t have anything to do with it.
The Keswick detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Wednesday about an investigation into a break, enter and theft in a Killarney Road subdivision recently.
“The break, enter and theft is believed to have occurred sometime between the afternoon of April 19, 2025, and 9 p.m. on April 21, 2025, at a residence on Independence Street in Killarney Road,” it said.
“The individual forcefully gained entry by the back door of the garage and stole a black, stand-up, rectangular 16-gun safe containing multiple firearms, a smaller black safe containing ammunition, two knives, a DVR system containing security footage [and] a 14-foot black tandem trailer without a ramp.”
The stolen trailer has an “AMO” emblem on the hitch, the Mounties reported.
The RCMP released an image of a man it said was caught on security-camera footage at the scene.
However, that post was removed from social media early Thursday with no update. Just before 3 p.m. Thursday, the RCMP released an update, announcing the pictured man was no longer a suspect.
“The individual has now been identified and is no longer considered a person of interest in this investigation,” it said.
However, the investigation into the break-in and theft continues.
Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or who has information that could aid the investigation is urged to call the Keswick detachment at 506-357-4300.
