RCMP seeks tips on abduction attempt
Mounties investigate reported incident in which two people tried to lure and snatch child; police released composite sketch Saturday of male suspect involving in luring attempt
The RCMP is investigating a report of an attempted child abduction earlier this week between the capital region and Sussex, and it’s hoping members of the public can shed some light on it.
“On April 21, 2025, members of the Sussex RCMP detachment received a report of a possible attempted abduction on Route 710 in the Henderson Settlement area,” the force said in a news release Thursday.

Henderson Settlement is located about an hour’s drive east of Fredericton, and about 15 kilometres south of Cambridge-Narrows.
“At approximately 5:15 p.m. that day, two individuals had approached a child that was riding a bike and tried to lure the child into their vehicle by offering the child candy, but the child ran to a neighbouring house,” the release said.
“The two individuals left the scene in a black four-door Subaru, possibly an Outback, with tinted windows, a sunroof and signs of rust on the front passenger bumper. The vehicle was travelling towards Cambridge-Narrows.”
The Mounties are turning to the public for help in identifying the two suspects.
The driver is described as a woman with light-coloured, shoulder-length curly hair.
The passenger is described as a man, possibly in his mid-30s, with a muscular build, curly hair, and a goatee with no moustache.
“At the time of the incident, he was wearing blue sunglasses and a green T-shirt with yellow on it,” the release said.
The RCMP updated its advisory by releasing a composite sketch of the male suspect.
Anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching this description in the Henderson Settlement or Cambridge-Narrows areas on April 21, who find the descriptions of the suspects family or who might have video footage from around the time of the incident is urged to call the Sussex RCMP at 506-433-7700.
