RCMP search Tracy area for missing man
Increased police presence in rural area stems from disappearance of Kevin Sexton, 40
The Mounties report that officers descended on the Tracy area Sunday as part of an ongoing effort to locate a Fredericton man who’s been missing for more than a week.
The RCMP’s Oromocto detachment issued a news release Tuesday, announcing it was seeking tips from the public about a missing person: Kevin Sexton, 40, of Fredericton.
“Kevin Sexton was last seen on May 31, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m. near the community of Tracy,” the release said.
“Police have followed up on several leads to try and locate him, but have so far been unsuccessful. Police and his family are concerned for his well-being.”
In an update on social media Sunday, the detachment advised officers were on hand in the Tracy area - about 35 kilometres south of Fredericton - that morning.
“There is an increased police presence in the Tracy area while NB RCMP continue to search for missing 40-year-old man, Kevin Sexton, who has been missing since May 31, 2024,” the post said.
“Anyone who has information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.”
Sexton is described as being about 5’8” (173 centimetres) tall, weighing about 170 pounds (77 kilograms), with blue eyes and short grey hair.
Police advised he was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt, dark blue sweatpants, and green and white shoes.
Sexton was in the news in the past, when he was charged with second-degree murder four years ago after he shot Justin Finnemore, 29, of Fredericton, in the Waasis area May 2, 2020.
He eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter in August 2021, leading to a prison term of 5½ years in December 2021, though that sentence was reduced by more than two years to account for remand time.
The RCMP is asking anyone who may have seen Sexton since May 31 or who has information on his whereabouts to contact the Oromocto detachment at 506-357-4300.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
