Bell Aliant outage is over - NBEMO
Mounties say direct lines to New Brunswick detachments are operational Thursday, and Emergency Measures Organization now indicates landline/internet issue has been resolved
The telecommunications glitches that affected Bell Aliant customers in some parts of New Brunswick have been fixed and RCMP detachments are reachable by phone once again, agencies report.
The New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (NBEMO) issued an Alert Ready advisory for areas from Woodstock, to Edmundston and Campbellton on Wednesday night.
The reason: “There is a Bell landline and internet outage,” NBEMO said on social media.
It advised people to use cell phones to call 911 - but only in an emergency.
“Cellphones are not affected,” the organization said. “Do not call 911 to test your phone.”
Around the same time Wednesday, the RCMP in New Brunswick announced direct lines to its various detachments in the province weren’t working either.
“Due to technical difficulties, local RCMP detachment phone lines in N.B. are currently down,” the New Brunswick RCMP posted on social media Wednesday night.
However, both agencies reported Thursday morning that the problems had been addressed.
“The landline issue has been resolved and service has been restored,” NBEMO said on social media at 9:50 a.m. Thursday.
And in an update at about 8:20 a.m. Thursday, the Mounties reported detachments were reconnected.
“The technical difficulties affecting local RCMP detachment phone lines in N.B. have been resolved, and phone lines are now working,” the force said in a post on social media. “Thank you for your patience.”
Bell Aliant never acknowledged the outage on its website or social-media channels.

They just sent out an alert that landlines are down between Woodstock and Edmunston. Cell phones still work.
