Quebec man’s sex-crime trial set for fall
Evan Audet, 21, previously opted for judge-alone trial in King’s Bench on Oromocto sexual-assault allegation from 2019
A Quebec man accused of sexual assault while he was at Base Gagetown in Oromocto four years ago will stand trial on the charge this fall.
Evan Audet, 21, of Shannon, Que., appeared in the Court of King’s Bench at the Burton Courthouse on Tuesday for motions day to schedule his trial.
He faces a count of sexual assault alleging an offence against a complainant between Aug.. 11, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2019, in Oromocto.
The complainant’s identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
Audet would have been 18 years old at the time of the events alleged in the charge.
Justice Thomas Christie said the court had scheduled the matter - to be conducted by a judge alone, without a jury - for Nov. 9 and 10.
Crown prosecutor Brian Munn and defence lawyer Isabelle Caissie confirmed those trial dates were acceptable.
