A Fredericton man accused of firing a rifle at another man last year will be assessed by a psychiatrist to see if he couldn’t appreciate the nature and consequences of his actions.
Darrell Richard Barnes, 51, of Brunswick Street, applied to the Fredericton provincial court last week for a psychiatric assessment to determine the issue of criminal responsibility.
He faces Oct. 3 counts of discharging a firearm at Dustin Madden in Geary with intent to wound him or endanger his life; pointing a firearm at Madden; possessing a rifle without a licence; and possessing stolen social insurance and Visa cards.
