Psych exam ordered for machete suspect
Bail hearing for Dominic Demerchant, 22, of Douglas, postponed to assess fitness
A suspect accused of assaulting another man with a machete earlier this week has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment and will return to court next month to review the results.
Dominic Demerchant, 22, of Route 105 in Douglas, was scheduled to go through a bail hearing in Fredericton provincial court Thursday, and he appeared there in person and in custody for that proceeding.
He’s accused of assaulting Sheldon Marr-Brewer with a weapon (a machete), uttering threats to cause him death and/or bodily harm, damaging the door to Amy Demerchant’s home and breaching a probation order, all on Tuesday in Douglas.
