Psych assessment ordered in child-porn case
Tommie McGinley, 33, of Minto, deemed not criminally responsible for past crime in 2016
Defence counsel for a child-pornography suspect asked a court to order a psychiatric assessment of his client to determine if he might be exempt from criminal responsibility for his alleged offence.
Tommie McGinley, 33, of Bridge Street in Minto, was back in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday, accompanied by defence lawyer Edward Derrah.
The defendant was scheduled to enter a plea to a May 22 charge of possession of child pornography.
However, Derrah asked instead for the court to order a psychiatric assessment to determine if the accused was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of his alleged offence that would exempt him from criminal responsibility.
