Province lifts spring weight restrictions
Heavy-truck traffic limits, which were to be in place until mid-May, will end two weeks early
The provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is lifting spring weight restrictions on New Brunswick roads ahead of schedule due to milder weather.
The department issued a news release Thursday indicating that weight restrictions, aimed at protecting New Brunswick highways during the spring thaw, will be lifted sooner than scheduled.
The spring restrictions will end in southern New Brunswick at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, and in northern New Brunswick on May 5 at the same time of day.
They were originally scheduled to be in effect until May 5 and 12, respectively.
“Thanks to milder temperatures, we are able to remove these restrictions two weeks earlier than anticipated,” Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Richard Ames said in the release.
“It is important to note that some of our secondary routes will remain restricted or closed to trucks until the road conditions improve.”
Specifics on restrictions, the routes in the province are subject to them and a map showing the various delineations can be found online at this link.
