Pix of suspect SUV released in vandalism case
Fredericton Police Force confirms it’s working with RCMP on related case in New Maryland
Fredericton police released photos of a suspect car connected to a vehicle-vandalism spree on the north side last month, confirming the force is working with the Mounties on a related case.
The Fredericton Police Force issued a news release last month, reporting it was investigating a rash of instances of vandalism done to vehicles on the city’s north side Aug. 23 and 24.

“Vehicles parked both on the street and in residential driveways were struck by hard objects, including bricks and rocks, resulting in shattered windows and windshields, along with extensive dents and other damage,” the police said in a news release.
The property damage was wrought in a widespread area on Fredericton’s north side on the weekend in question, it said, noting there were reports from Irvine Street, MacPherson Street, Weyman Street, Gulliver Drive, Walker Street, Ashfield Street, Neill Street Doobie Street, Noble Street, Douglas Avenue, Carrington Lane Peters Drive, Kimberly Street, Hilltop Drive, Cherry Avenue, Cedar Avenue, Sunset Drive, Burpee Street, Kent Street, McGregor Street and Diamond Street.
In a followup release Monday, the police force released photos of a suspect vehicle that was caught on security cameras.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle of interest connected to these incidents, or for anyone with information that may help investigators to contact police,” it said.
“We realize the quality of the photos is not ideal; however, we are hopeful that someone in the affected areas may have better quality photos.”
The blurry photos appear to depict a fast-moving white or light-coloured SUV.
The Oromocto detachment of the RCMP issued a similar call for tips from the public recently about a vandalism spree that occurred in New Maryland on Aug. 25, shortly after the Fredericton incidents.
“The incidents are believed to have occurred during the overnight hours of Aug. 25, at several addresses in New Maryland, where one or more suspects damaged multiple vehicles by throwing objects through the windshields,” the Mounties said in a news release Sept. 5.

Fredericton police spokesperson Sonya Gilks confirmed Monday that the cases could be linked, given the similarities.
“I can confirm our investigators have been working with the RCMP on these files,” she wrote in an email to the Fredericton Independent.
The city police force is asking Fredericton residents in the neighbourhoods in question to check footage from doorbell cameras, security cameras or dash cams for any images of the suspect vehicle or any other suspicious persons or vehicles.
