Peeping Tom pleads guilty
Jeremy Aaron Muise, 44, of Fredericton, admitted prowling at night and staring through window at university residence last summer, violating someone’s privacy
A Fredericton man will be sentenced this fall after admitting Wednesday he prowled at night and peered through a window at a former university residence.
Jeremy Aaron Muise, 44, of Leicester Street, was scheduled to stand trial Wednesday in Fredericton provincial court on charges of voyeurism, prowling at night and an indecent act.
However, he opted instead to plead guilty to some of the charges against him.
Muise admitted to surreptitiously observing someone with an expectation of privacy by watching through a window at 360 Forest Hill Rd. and to prowling at night at that location, both on July 30, 2022.
Muise maintained his not-guilty pleas on a related charge of committing an indecent act - namely, masturbation - in a public place.
It’s expected the Crown will withdraw that count after sentencing.
The defendant also admitted to a Sept. 12 count of breaching a condition of a police undertaking to stay away from 360 Forest Hill Rd.
That’s the address of Chatham Hall, a residence facility formerly operated by St. Thomas University but now operated privately.
Judge Scott Brittain ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report and victim-impact statement for the court’s consideration, and scheduled Muise’s sentencing hearing for Oct. 10.
Note: An earlier version of this story indicated Chatham Hall was operated by St. Thomas University, but the institution hasn’t owned the building since 2016. We regret the error.
