Peace bond to replace sex-assault charge

A Lincoln man accused of sexual assault be will be allowed to avoid the charge by entering into a peace bond, a court heard Friday.
Lucas Thebeau, 21, of Jackie Street, was scheduled to stand trial in September on a Feb. 26, 2024, summary charge of sexual assault, as well as counts from earlier this year of breaching a police undertaking to have no contact with the complainant twice and causing damage to a table at the RCMP detachment in Oromocto.
There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the identity of the complainant.
The files were brought before provincial court Judge Mary Jane Richards ahead of scheduled Friday because the Crown and defence had reached a resolution in the matters.
