A convicted killer who finds himself back in federal custody on an alleged parole violation is also facing new charges stemming from his time in the capital this summer.
Evan James Polchies, 38, of Geegan Street on the Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation, was sentenced to 13½ years in prison in October 2018 for manslaughter in the Jan. 26, 2017, shooting death of Robert John Smith, AKA, Bobby Martin, as well as intimidation of a justice-system participant.
He and Joe-Anna Marcella Hachey, 31, of Fredericton, both were originally charged with second-degree murder in Smith’s death, but Hachey pleaded guilty to the lesser, included offence of manslaughter.
