A man who slaughtered his elderly neighbours in Minto 20 years ago has assaulted a psychiatrist and threatened other inmates, making it impossible to treat him further in New Brunswick, doctors said Thursday.

Gregory Allan Despres, 42 - who killed Fred Fulton and Veronica (“Verna”) DeCarie in their Minto home April 23, 2005 - was back before the New Brunswick review board in a Moncton courtroom Thursday.

He was deemed not criminally responsible for the murders because he couldn’t appreciate the nature of his actions due to schizophrenic delusions.

The killer has been under the purview of the review board ever since, and for the most part, he’s been held at the Shepody Healing Centre, a secure hospital at Dorchester Penitentiary.
