Oromocto man admits to sexual assault
Michael John Smith, 45, will be sentenced in June after pleading guilty to the summary offence
An Oromocto man accused of sexually assaulting someone last summer admitted to the crime Wednesday and will be sentenced in the coming months.
Michael John Smith, 45, of Nikia Drive in Oromocto, pleaded guilty in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday to a summary count of sexual assault that occurred in Oromocto on July 10.
Judge Mary Jane Richards ordered a publication ban on anything that might identify the victim. Nothing was mentioned in court Wednesday regarding the victim’s age or gender, or the circumstances giving rise to the charge.
Defence lawyer Edward Derrah said his client was seeking to have a pre-sentence report, and the judge ordered that as well.
Richards scheduled Smith’s sentencing hearing for June 27.
