An Ontario man accused of assaulting and choking a woman five times in 2023 in different spots around New Brunswick denied the allegations Monday.

Matthew Briggs, 33, of Port Elgin, Ont., appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from his home Monday.

He faces five sets of charges alleging he assaulted Stephanie Hamblin and assaulted her by choking - in Moncton on Feb. 3, 2023; in Mount Carleton on July 1, 2023; in Fredericton on July 8 and Aug. 14, 2023; and in Grand Falls on Sept. 9, 2023.
