One year added to drug offender’s prison stint
Stephen Perley Jr., 28, admitted to possessing cocaine, methamphetamine for purpose of trafficking, as well as possessing loaded, prohibited handgun without authorization
A Perth-Andover man saw his prison sentence for a shooting incident three years ago extended by a year Thursday for drug-trafficking crimes and another firearms offence.
Stephen Perley Jr., 28, of Main Street in Perth-Andover, pleaded guilty in Fredericton provincial court in January to counts of possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a loaded, prohibited handgun without a licence, all perpetrated in Fredericton on June 14, 2021.
He appeared in court again Thursday by video from prison for his sentencing hearing.
Prosecutor Derek Weaver said he and defence lawyer Steve McNair were offering a joint recommendation on sentence that was admittedly lenient, given the seriousness of the crimes: one year consecutive to time Perley is already serving in prison.
