A Fredericton man was sentenced to time served Wednesday after spending almost a year behind bars following a standoff with police in a northside neighbourhood last summer.

Andrew Jim Roberts, 40, of Union Street, appeared in Fredericton provincial court in custody  and in person Wednesday for a sentencing hearing.

Roberts was charged last year with assault and firearms offences following an Aug. 31 standoff with police at a Pettigrove Crescent home, but in April, he pleaded guilty to breaching a court-ordered firearms prohibition by possessing ammunition and damaging Fredericton Police Force property.

Crown prosecutor Geoffrey Hutchin told court Wednesday that at about 8 a.m. Aug. 31, police responded to Pettigrove Crescent after receiving a report of a man with a gun passed out in a garage.
