Offender accused of abusing another child
Southampton man convicted two years ago of sexual offence against granddaughter between 2006-2016 now alleged to have committed similar crimes between 2018-2020
An elderly Southampton man who was convicted after trial in 2023 of sexually abusing his granddaughter for years now stands accused of violating an order to register as a sex offender.
A 76-year-old man from Southampton appeared in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday to face new charges alleging sexual offences against a minor several years ago.
The new charges allege he touched a person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose and sexually assaulted that same complainant at Southampton between Feb. 1, 2018, and Jan. 31, 2020.
The defendant is still subject to a two-year conditional sentence order that was imposed in July 2023 after he was convicted after trial of molesting a different child - his granddaughter - for 10 years, beginning in 2006 when the girl was only four years old.
