No-show offender held for sentencing
Shawna Eveleen Decoste, 34, of no fixed address, who was supposed to be sentenced in March for injurious impaired-driving incident, now faces new charges alleging vehicle theft
A woman who didn’t show up for her sentencing hearing earlier this year for impaired driving causing bodily harm was picked up this week on outstanding arrest warrants.
Shawna Eveleen Decoste, 34, of no fixed address but formerly of Springfield, N.S., was supposed to appear in Fredericton provincial court March 21 for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by a drug in Penniac and causing bodily harm to Carter Bailey in Penniac on Sept. 20, 2022.
But when the case was called in court more than three months ago, Decoste was a no-show, prompting a judge to issue a warrant for her arrest.
It turns out that warrant was executed by police this week, as the offender appeared in court Thursday by telephone from the Fredericton police station cellblock.
