No conditional sentence for fraudster
Judge says community-based sentence for Florence George Youssef, 57, of Fredericton, for emptying vulnerable women’s accounts would be inappropriate, imposed 14 months in jail
A judge has denied a Fredericton woman’s request for a non-custodial sentence for defrauding two women of diminished mental capacity of thousands of dollars, describing her actions as “reprehensible.”
Florence George Youssef, 57, of Willington Court, was back before Court of King’s Bench Justice Richard Petrie at the Burton Courthouse on Tuesday to hear his decision on sentence.
Court heard previously that while caring for two vulnerable women - Sheila Amos, who’s of diminished mental capacity, and Betty Fairley, who was developing dementia - she emptied their bank accounts of tens of thousands of dollars by way of transfers and ATM withdrawals between 2019 and 2021.
When the accounts were all but drained, Youssef then manipulated Fairley into taking out high-interest loans against the equity of her home.
