New trial dates set in sexual-abuse case
Burton man’s conviction for molesting his daughter years ago overturned on appeal and new trial ordered, and this time, defendant, who has new counsel, wants jury to decide case
A Burton man is headed to trial for a second time on allegations that he molested his daughter several years ago, and this time around, a jury of his peers will decide the case rather than a judge alone.
The 65-year-old defendant was back at the Burton Courthouse on Monday in the Court of King’s for motions to schedule his trial on charges of sexually assaulting his daughter and touching her for a sexual purpose between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 18, 2018, when she was a minor.
There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the complainant’s identity, and given the relationship between them, the Fredericton Independent isn’t naming the accused so as to comply with the ban.
