New psych exam for workplace assault suspect
Accused of attacking co-workers last month, Matthew Bridges, 35, of Lakeville Corner, deemed fit to stand trial, but now defence seeks to explore criminal-responsibility issue
A Lakeville Corner man deemed fit to stand trial on charges of assaulting co-workers last month is going to go through another psychiatric exam to determine his mental state at the time of his alleged offences.
Matthew Bridges, 35, of Route 690, was remanded after his arrest last month and charged with assaulting Ryan Cleghorn, Patrick Alexander and Matthew Stewart; obstructing a police officer and causing a disturbance at Brandt Equipment in Hanwell, all on June 20.
A judge ordered a short psychiatric assessment last week at the request of duty counsel to determine if Bridges was fit to stand trial.
He appeared in Fredericton provincial court again Tuesday by video conference from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre for his fitness hearing.
