‘My life has been shattered’
Woman whom Cruiz Avery Webb, 30, accosted, assaulted randomly in uptown parking lot June 26 tells court how she’s now paralyzed by anxiety, can’t live independently anymore
After a court heard from a woman who spoke of how her life has been turned upside down since she was assaulted this summer, a court sentenced the perpetrator to a little more time behind bars.
Cruiz Avery Webb, 30, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Friday by video conference from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre for his sentencing hearing.
He’d previously pleaded guilty June 4 counts of mischief causing damage to a 2014 Toyota Corolla belonging to Kurtis McCarthy, mischief causing damage to a Fredericton Police Force cruiser and obstruction of police officers; as well as a June 26 assault with a weapon.
The latter offence was the most serious for which he was being sentenced.
Crown prosecutor Brett Stanford said police were called after Webb assaulted Sandra Nason in the parking lot of Canadian Tire on Smythe Street at about 7 p.m. June 26.
