‘Mr. Rogers is playing games’
Colin Jaffar Rogers, 28, of Fredericton, unco-operative with psychiatrist for fitness assessment, ordered to undergo new examination to determine criminal responsibility
A Fredericton man accused of a violent attack in March laughed as he toyed with court and jail officials Monday, even as the court heard he has a history of mental illness and criminal conduct.
Colin Jaffar Rogers, 28, of Westbrook Lane, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video conference from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Monday, scheduled for a hearing on his latest assessment to determine if he’s fit to stand trial.
Judge Karen Lee noted the court received two psychiatrists’ reports on the issue of Rogers’ mental fitness. The first, dated in March, was incomplete due to the defendant’s refusal to co-operate, she noted.
The second report, dated in late April, similarly described Rogers and unco-operative with the forensic psychiatrist, the judge said, but it nevertheless determined that the accused is fit to stand trial.
