Mounties make arrest in Tobique shooting
27-year-old man arrested after non-fatal gunshot incident July 5 in indigenous community
A 27-year-old Tobique First Nation man has a pending court date stemming from a reporter shooting incident in the up-river indigenous community last weekend.
The West District RCMP issued a news release Friday afternoon, noting its crime reduction unit investigated a gunshot incident early July 5.
“On July 5, 2025, at approximately 3:20 a.m., members of the Perth-Andover and Tobique RCMP detachments responded to a report of a shooting on Tobique First Nation,” the release said.
“When police arrived, they located a 32-year-old man who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transferred to hospital with what were believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries.”
The crime reduction unit, with the assistance of the force’s forensic team and Tobique detachment members, investigated, it said, and arrested a 27-year-old man later the same day.
That suspect was released on conditions and a promise to appear in Woodstock provincial court at a later date, the release said.
The RCMP is seeking further information in the investigation and issued a plea for tips from the public Friday as well.
Anyone with information that could advance the investigation is urged to call the West District crime reduction unit at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267).
