Counsel for a Miramichi-area man accused of a serious sexual offence in Fredericton a year ago sought an adjournment Monday to get a look at the evidence gathered in support of the prosecution.

Wyatt DeAdder, 26, of South Barnaby Road in Barnaby, about 40 kilometres south of Miramichi, wasn’t present in Fredericton provincial court Monday when his case was called, but defence lawyer Sabrina Winters appeared on his behalf.

She filed a designation of counsel that allowed her to act in his absence on the indictable charge.

DeAdder is accused of sexually assaulting a complainant in Fredericton on March 13, 2024.
