Mentally ill offender remanded to Restigouche
Warrants issued by New Brunswick review board require Fergus Charles Fitzpatrick, 42, be returned to psychiatric hospital even as he faces new and recent charges in Fredericton
A Fredericton man deemed not criminally responsible for violent episodes and a museum break-in a year ago has been remanded once again to a secure psychiatric facility.
Fergus Charles Fitzpatrick, 42, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from custody Thursday, when he was charged by the Fredericton Police Force with assaulting Kevin McNamara and damaging a door at Science East, alleging events from Wednesday.
Crown prosecutor Christopher Lavigne objected to Fitzpatrick’s release.
However, he noted that the defendant was also subject to several warrants of arrest issued by the New Brunswick review board.
