A Maugerville man accused of shooting another man last year was acquitted last week after the man who sustained a gunshot wound didn’t attend court to testify at a scheduled trial.

Brandon Aaron Laads, 33, of Portobello Drive, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Thursday, scheduled to stand trial on five indictable charges.

He was accused of discharging a firearm at Shawn Cochrane with intent to wound, maim or disfigure him, or to endanger his life; possessing a rifle for a purpose dangerous to the public peace; storing that rifle improperly; possessing it without a licence; and possessing it knowing he didn’t have such a licence or authorization.

All charges alleged events in Maugerville on March 17, 2024.
