Man accused of brutalizing family member
42-year-old defendant faces charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, among others
A New Brunswick man accused of severe violence against a female family member will be back before a judge next month to elect mode of trial and to enter pleas.
The 42-year-old defendant, of no fixed address, faces seven counts alleging violent offences against a family member, purported to have occurred New Year’s Day, and he appeared in Fredericton provincial court Monday by telephone from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on those charges.
Crown prosecutor Christopher Lavigne asked the court to impose a publication ban on anything that would tend to identify the complainant, given the sexual nature of one of the charges.
