Lockdown suspect seeks psych assessment
Police operation to arrest Vincent John Ryan Currie, 42, who was wanted for being unlawfully at large during prison sentence, shut down northside neighbourhood for hours
A federal parolee accused of violating the conditions of his release asked a court to order a psychiatric assessment this week, though the defence didn’t offer much in the way of supporting evidence.
Members of the Fredericton Police Force arrested Vincent John Ryan Currie, 42, formerly of Fredericton, the afternoon of July 4 after learning he was at a Nashwaaksis residence on the capital’s north side.
A warrant had been issued after the Correctional Service Canada advised Currie was wanted for an alleged violation of the terms of his release from prison, and as a result, he was charged with being unlawfully at large.
The defendant appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the Atlantic Institution in Renous on Wednesday, scheduled to enter a plea on the charge.
