Liverpool Street safety study kept secret
City councillor Greg Ericson, Fredericton South MLA David Coon call on Transportation and Infrastructure department to reveal justification for exit ramp closure residents didn’t want
The province wasted no time in putting crews to work to shut off the Vanier Highway exit to Liverpool Street in Fredericton on Monday, even as it has declined to share the study it says justifies the move.
The provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) announced last week it was closing the exit ramp from Route 7 onto the Skyline Acres street on Fredericton’s south side effective Monday morning.
“I have concerns about the safety of not only the travelling public using the exit, but also the safety of those living in the immediate area of the exit ramp,” Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Richard Ames said in the release Feb. 29.
“After further review, action needed to be taken, so the exit ramp is being closed.”
True to its word, the department had a crew on site Monday, removing signage and erecting barriers to prevent traffic from using the exit.
