Liquor-store assault suspect released
Liban Ali Ahmed-Shardi, 31, of no fixed address, headed to Montreal for addictions treatment; among conditions on his release order are strict house arrest and $500 surety
A homeless man facing allegations he slashed two liquor-store workers has been released from custody on conditions, including house arrest and participation in addictions treatment.
Liban Ali Ahmed-Shardi, 31, of no fixed address, has been in custody since his June 7 arrest on charges of assaulting Maximillian Cantwell and Floyd Fox with a weapon - a glass pipe - at NB Liquor in the York Street Train Station on that date.
He previously underwent a psychiatric assessment to determine if he might be exempt from criminal responsibility due to a mental disorder at the time of the alleged offence, but it ultimately found he was sufficiently aware of the nature and consequences of his reported actions.

Ahmed-Shardi was back in Fredericton provincial court in person Thursday, scheduled to go through a bail hearing.
