Lincoln couple lost $51K in contractor scam
Brandon Boudreau, 31, of Saint John, never did second-storey addition project as hired and even left victims without roof over garage, but offender made full restitution at sentencing
A Saint John man fleeced a Lincoln couple for tens of thousands of dollars for a home-renovation project he never did for them, but paid them back in full for their losses at sentencing.
Brandon Boudreau, 31, of Meadowbank Avenue in Saint John, was back in Fredericton provincial court last week for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to an indictable charge of fraud.
Crown prosecutor Matthew Paik said that in the spring of 2022, John and Julie Ridley hired Boudreau as their contractor on a home-renovation project: a long-time dream of adding a second-storey over the garage at their Nevers Road home in Lincoln.
Between May 1 and Aug. 31, 2022, he said, the Ridleys sent e-transfers totalling $45,486.25 to Boudreau for supplies and equipment for the job.
But the offender did none of the work, the prosecutor said, save for one aspect: he removed the existing roof and never replaced it.
