Legion facility, monument vandalized
Fredericton police turn to public for tips on latest in series of property-damage crimes
A monument honouring fallen soldiers and a facility that supports veterans are the latest structures to fall victim to vandalism in the capital region.
The Fredericton Police Force issued a news release Thursday asking the public for information about vandalism at the Royal Canadian Legion on Smythe Street, on the Capital Exhibition Grounds.
It said the damage was done over Wednesday into the early-morning hours of Thursday.
“Along with the physical damage to the building, the monument out front bearing the names of fallen soldiers has been defaced,” the force said in a social-media post.
There have been a series of instances of vandalism at locations designed to remember and honour the deceased, notably at cemeteries in Fredericton and surrounding capital-region communities.
Anyone with information about the damage wrought at the Legion this week is urged to contact the Fredericton Police Force by calling 506-460-2300 or emailing gerik.skoretz@fredericton.ca.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 as well.
Tipsters should cite file #23-26628.
