Jury trial sought on Oromocto sex-crime charge
Andrew McGregor, 40, is accused of sexual assault alleged to have occurred five years ago
An Oromocto man is opting to have a jury hear his trial on a serious sexual-assault charge alleged to have occurred five years ago in the model town.
Andrew McGregor, 40, of Hallihan Drive, wasn’t present in Fredericton provincial court Monday when his case was called, but defence lawyer Adrian Forsythe appeared on his behalf, acting as agent for McGregor’s counsel, Nathan Gorham.
McGregor is accused of committing an indictable sexual assault in Oromocto between Jan. 3 and Dec. 21, 2018.
The name of the complainant is protected.
Forsythe said the accused was prepared to elect mode of trial, and he filed a notice of election, opting for a trial in the Court of King’s Bench before a judge and jury.
Judge Scott Brittain referred the case to the next King’s Bench motions day to schedule the jury trial.
