Judge takes issue with perp’s meth use
Jesse William Woodcock, 20, of Fredericton, seeks community-based sentence for threatening shelter workers, unlawfully entering home, but he’s abusing illicit drugs daily
The Crown and defence both recommended a community-based sentence for a first-time offender on threat and unlawful-entry charges, but there was one problem: he’s abusing meth daily.
Jesse William Woodcock, 20, of Brunswick Street, was back in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday for a sentencing hearing, having previously pleaded guilty to several offences.
Crown prosecutor Brett Stanford detailed the facts of each of those crimes, beginning with the theft of a smartphone.
He said the Fredericton Police Force were dispatched to the men’s homeless shelter on Brunswick Street, where Bradley Lyons reported that Woodcock had stolen his iPhone 12. The theft was caught on video, court heard, and the offender admitted to police that he’d taken the phone.
