A man and a woman who were jointly charged with second-degree murder and scheduled to stand trial together before a judge and jury in March will now be dealt with separately by the courts.

Joshua Kristopher Raines, 48, of Route 565 in Holmesville, between Perth Andover and Florenceville-Bristol; and Samantha Mary Butler, 23, of Karen Drive in Rusagonis, were charged jointly in April 2023 with one count of second-degree murder in the shooting death Lucas Richard Solomon Polchies, 27, of Bilijk (Kingsclear) First Nation.

Both have been in custody since their arrests on the homicide allegation.

Their Court of King’s Bench trial before a judge and jury was scheduled to begin March 17 and run for five weeks.
