Joint drug prosecution crawls through court
Dale Dunham, 36, of Hoyt, already denied Dec. 5 fentanyl, meth and cocaine charges, but co-accused Posha Ward, 33, of Hardwicke, has yet to meet with counsel, review disclosure
Counsel for a Hoyt man accused of drug-trafficking charges from late last year said his client is ready to set trial dates, but court heard Thursday the co-accused still isn’t ready for election and pleas.
Dale Dunham, 36, of Mill Settlement Road in Hoyt, about 50 kilometres south of Fredericton; and Posha Ward, 33, of Hardwicke Road in Hardwicke, about 45 km east of Miramichi, are jointly charged with Dec. 5 counts of possessing fentanyl, methamphetamines and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Dunham is also accused of a related charge of possessing $240 in cash deemed to be the proceeds of crime.
He was originally charged alone with those alleged drug offences, and he opted for a provincial-court trial and pleaded not guilty to those counts in January.
