Indecent acts, arson draw further jail time
After being found fit to stand trial again, Andrew Derek Washburn, 33, of no fixed address, once again admits to several crimes, including two instances of masturbating in public
An unhoused man with serious mental-health issues who’s been on remand for months was sentenced to several more weeks behind bars Monday for arson and indecent acts, among other crimes.
Andrew Derek Washburn, 33, no fixed address, found himself in a courtroom prisoner’s dock in Fredericton provincial court Monday, scheduled to go through a fitness hearing.
A judge ordered him to undergo a five-day psychiatric assessment recently to determine if he understood the court process and could participate in his defence.
He faced March 10 counts of committing an indecent act by masturbating in public and obstructing police; March 14 charges of committing another indecent act by masturbating in public; and March 30 counts of stealing a bike from Savage’s Bicycle Centre, setting a fire at Kings Place while being reckless as to it being occupied and resisting arrest.
