Human remains found in Burton identified
RCMP had sought tips about deceased male found in November; it turned out to be Shannon Ray Jones, 34, of Fredericton, who’d been reported as missing in October 2022
Human remains found four months ago in Burton were identified as those of a Fredericton man reported as missing to police the month before, the RCMP confirmed Thursday.
The Mounties issued a news release in November about human remains and the effort to identify the individual.
“On Nov. 8, 2023, members of the West District RCMP community crime reduction unit began an investigation into the discovery of human remains that were located along the Saint John River in Burton, N.B.,” the release said.
“With the assistance of a forensic anthropologist it has since been determined that the deceased would be a Caucasian man, between the ages of 20 and 50 years old, who would have died within the past 10 years.”
There had been no mention of the investigation since that time, and the Fredericton Independent reached out to the RCMP on Thursday to inquire about it.
