Homicide victim was Oromocto chief’s sister
Sheri Lynn Sabattis found dead Saturday; Jared Josiah Smith, 38, accused of murder
The Welamukotuk (Oromocto) First Nation woman whom the RCMP says was murdered over the weekend was the chief’s sister and the community centre’s resource co-ordinator.
The RCMP reports that officers arrested Jared Josiah Smith, 38, of Route 102 in Burton, on Sunday and charged him with second-degree murder.
“On April 27, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP responded to a call for service at a residence on Oromocto First Nation,” an RCMP release issued Sunday stated.
“When police arrived at the scene, a 54-year-old woman from the community was discovered deceased.”
While the RCMP didn’t identify the victim over the weekend, the charge laid in court named her as Sheri Lynn Sabattis.
