Home-invasion suspect on the lam - RCMP
Brandon Francis and Morgan Nicholas, both 29, were released on conditions after being charged with violent home invasion at Tobique First Nation; Francis now sought on breach
One of two men charged in connection with a violent home invasion in the Upper River Valley area has allegedly cut off his electronic-monitoring bracelet, the RCMP reports, and police are seeking to arrest him.
The Tobique detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Monday morning about a violent incident at the Tobique First Nation, subsequent arrests and a new search for one of the suspects accused of violating the conditions of his release.
“On April 29, 2025, at approximately 4:34 a.m., members of Tobique RCMP detachment responded to a report of a home invasion on Main Street in the community of Tobique First Nation,” the release said.
“Two individuals forcibly entered a residence and assaulted a 48-year-old man, and fled the scene prior to police arrival.”
The complainant suffered what were described as minor injuries and didn’t need medical attention, it said.
Officers identified two suspects early in the investigation and arrested the two men - Brandon Francis and Morgan Nicholas, both 29 - at 2 p.m. the same day in the indigenous community.
The RCMP reported the suspects and the complainant knew one another, and that the home invasion was considered an isolated incident.
The two accused men were charged April 30 in Woodstock provincial court with counts of robbery, assault with a weapon and mischief causing damage to property. Francis was also charged with counts of uttering threats, resisting arrest and breaching a probation order.
The RCMP release noted the pair was released from custody on conditions that included following a nightly curfew and wearing an electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet.
However, police reported, it’s alleged Francis violated that judicial release order later the same day.
“Later the same evening, Brandon Francis cut his ankle monitoring device, and a warrant has now been issued for his arrest for failing to comply with a release order,” the release said.
Anyone who’s seen Francis since the evening of May 1 or who has information that could help further the investigation is urged to call the Tobique RCMP at 506-273-5003.
