Hefty disclosure in used-car fraud case
Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Doaktown, accused of fleecing customers at DMR Auto Sales
Court heard Tuesday that the defence will likely need extra time to review the “voluminous” disclosure in a prosecution of a used-car dealer accused of defrauding two dozen customers of money and vehicles.
Brent Hayward Stewart, 49, of Hazelton Road, was back in Fredericton provincial court Tuesday to answer to 26 counts of fraud and one count of theft.
The charges allege offences in 2020 and 2021 while Stewart was employed as a salesman at DMR Auto Sales in the Pepper Creek area.
The RCMP financial crimes unit, which investigated the case, has alleged Stewart defrauded customers at the dealership, as well as the business itself, of thousands of dollars and numerous vehicles over the course of his employment there.
